Creating Extemp

RxOne has the ability to track use of each ingredient in a 'private' extemp. This facility cannot be use for NHS scripts as the NHS works on averages.

 To create a new extemp.

  1. From the Script Screen, go to 'Options' 'Mixture'.

  2. Select New

  3. Mixture name? Type this in as you want it to appear on labels.

  4. Drug? Type in and select an ingredient.

  5. Quantity? Move to either the absolute 'quantity' or 'percentage' column and enter quantity. The last one can be left blank and will be made up to 100%.

  6. Fill in just one column... do not mix quantities and percentages within the same mixture.

  7. Specify all liquids mls, solids in grams, and tablets in counts. Do not use Litres, ug, mcg or Kg.

  8. The item will be placed in the list and you will be ready for the next ingredient. Use the cursor keys to move around the drug/quantity grid and change things until you are happy with what you see.

  9. From the last ingredient, press <tab> or Quantity and specify the total volume of this script, so it can calculate the quantity of the last ingredient if that was left blank.

  10. Accept 'Ok".

 Stock control of ingredients

All ingredients are stock controlled.

Notes

  • An extemporaneous script can have any number of ingredients.

  • All ingredients must be have a stock card so that the total adds to 100%. A user could create an item named 'Unknown ingredient' to satisfy this.
