Barcodes not scanning
Damage to the barcode label
If a specific item will not scan, but other items with the same barcode will then it is possible that the barcode on that item is damaged. In this case simply type in the barcode or search for the product.
Leading Zeros
If a barcode number has leading zeros (0012345) then some older barcode readers may struggle to read these numbers. This will make the barcode unusable by that scanner.
Not Scanning at Point of Sale
If an item wont scan at Point of Sale then a good place to start is by looking at the item’s stock card. From the Point of Sale main screen click Window → Stock Cards or press <Alt+S>
In the Options Tab ensure that POS Lookup is selected.
Self Printed Barcodes not scanning
Barcodes can be adjusted to suit the particular printer. If the barcode looks OK but won't scan then make adjustments in the Printer Setup.
Printing
Main Menu > Tools > Printer Setup
Highlight 'Price Stickers' then click Advanced
If the barcodes are to thin then untick Thin Barcodes
If the barcodes are to thick then tick Thin barcodes
To test a barcode
After switching, duplicate a receipt and scan the barcode to see if OK.
Note: This also does the setting for the POS price labels so if these are being printed on a different type of printer then this may cause problems. So print a few shop labels as well and test those too.
Faulty Barcode Scanner
Try scanning the label on another computer. If it works then it may be that your scanner is faulty.
Printer Issues
This could be the result of damage to the printer thermal head. In this case some labels will scan okay, and others will struggle.
A barcode will scan in Orders but not in a sales screen
The sales screen is only set to look for barcodes that are stored in the Barcode field of a stock card, or in the PLU field. It may be that you are attempting to scan the supplier part-code. If you need to be able to scan this in sales, you will need to add it as a barcode in the stock card.
Some machines will scan and some not
The dispensary slave computer may be set to print thin barcodes, and the master is correctly set for thick, so almost all of the barcodes from that slave will fail. Solution is to set the slave to thick barcodes as well.
