Cautionary Notes

[Revised Oct 2008]

To set the C&A notes to default to on/off.

  • From the Dispensary Screen Main menu, Options

  • Click on 'Show Options'

  • Down arrow to "C&A note on label"(local). Press "Enter" on this line to toggle on/off the default state of the C&A notes.

Override of C&A notes

No matter what the default option, C&A notes can be individually switched on and off for a particular script during dispensing by clicking the "C&A note" box on the 'Status' panel where the C&A label text is displayed.

To permanently switch off say #1 for Histafen Elixir, while in the script click Ctrl X after unticking on the Status panel.

Note: For antibiotic mixtures, the date will be calculated on the C&A note if you choose whichever is appropriate of C&A 51,52 or 53.

Example: Type in the patient instructions "5ml tid 51" will give you "Take 5ml three times daily" and automatically insert "Discard after 7 days" as the C&A label

If the date is at the end of an instruction you can separate from the C&A number by using a full stop.  Example '12/12/06. 51'

Optional manual C&A note

Any C&A note can be printed on any script by adding the C&A note number to the 'sig'. E.g. "2 tds8" will produce "TWO three times daily" and C&A Note Number 8, overriding any default C&A note that might exist for the drug on this occasion only . Note, no space between 'tds' and '8' in the above example.

Shortened dates:

This 'manual' method will also mean that any line on a label that ends with a number will be interpreted as a request for a C&A label and the number truncated. E.g. a line that ends "... until 12/12/98" will be taken as a request for C&A label No 98, which does not exist, and the "98" is removed leaving ".... until 12/12/". Prevent this by adding a full stop, "... until 12/12/98." so that the last character is NOT a number.

Adding C&A labels to the top of a Script Label

When dispensing if you want to add your own C&A notes to the top of the script label, in a Script click on the status panel. Under C&A notes, click on the selection box and select as many C&A as you want.

To print the C&A note numbers on the second part of 3-part labels

Allow some time to do this in case you run into problems.

From the  RxOne start menu, go to Tools, Printer Setup.

Highlight script label, select Advanced.

Under Field details', select C&A notes and then click on ‘Add’ under fields and ok to save. Define the X and Y and length co-ordinates to have the number of the C&A note print on the second or third part of a 3-part label. You can change the position of where these numbers print by adjusting  ‘mm from left’ and ‘mm from top’. You can see in the display where it is going to print.
