Close Control Dispensing

Close Control Dispensing

This function is commonly used for bulk dispensing of frequently dispensed close controlled medications e.g. Methadone

Step 1 – Process any new prescriptions

Dispense a Methadone script with repeats as per your normal process.

Ensure the close control box is ticked on the status panel. In most cases, this will get ticked automatically after entering the number of repeats.

A text box will prompt you to enter the expiry date of the script, or the number of days the repeats are valid for.

Once satisfied with the script entry, select Finish.

The methadone dispensing should appear on the dispensing log

Repeat the steps for any new methadone prescriptions that need to be entered today.

Step 2 – Dispensing Repeats
From the Main dispensary screen select File>Close Control Dispensing.

Enter "Methadone" in the search box and select “METHADONE HCL FORTE 5MG/ML: Sole 11/18”.

All patients who have a repeat still available for this drug will be displayed in the list.

Select from the following dispensing options:

  • If you wish to dispense a repeat for all patients listed, select “Dispense All Scripts”

  • If you wish to dispense specific repeats, either: click on the repeats while holding down the CTRL key; or click and drag the repeats using the mouse. When finished selecting, press “Dispense Selected Scripts”.

Each selected repeat script will display. Click 'Finish' after viewing and accepting the repeat.

Dispensing Multiple repeats

To dispense several separate repeats at once e.g. 1 consume dose for “A TEST” and 2 Takeaway doses for the weekend, either:

Click on the 'Dispensings' column and change '1' by typing '3' in the box

Select the patient’s name and press “Change No. of Dispensings for Selected Scripts”. Then enter the number of repeats you wish to dispense

You can change the number of repeats to be dispensed for all the scripts to the same value (e.g. 3 repeats for all the scripts), by selecting ‘Change No. Of Dispensings for ALL Scripts’. Enter in the number of dispensings required (e.g.  3) in the pop up box. Select ‘OK’ and then choose one of the dispensing options.

Each dispensing will come up separately to be accepted and three separate repeats each of 20ml will be claimed.

Option to not preview script - ‘Don’t Preview Scripts When Dispensing’

RxOne can automatically dispense the scripts without you having view and click on ‘Finish’ for each script. Click ‘File’, tick ‘Don’t Preview Scripts When Dispensing’.
However, if there is not enough stock for the drug, the question ”Do you want to apply owing?” will still come up and you will have to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the question and then select ‘Finish’ on the script.
